Domain Registration Requirements for .org.au & .asn.au

Solution

What are the eligibility criteria for registering this domain name?

.ORG.AU & .ASN.AU

.org.au and .asn.au domain names have relatively strict eligibility requirements as they are intended for use by not-for-profit, charity, and government organisations.

The most common entity types eligible to register these domain names are:

  • Not-for-profit organisations registered with the Australian Charities and Not-For-Profits Commission (ACNC)
  • Club/Sporting/Special Interest Groups
  • Religious/Church Groups
  • Incorporated Associations in any State
  • Political Party Groups registered with the Australian Electoral Commission
  • Trade Unions registered with the Fair Work Act of 2009

Common eligibility information we require for .org.au domain names are:

  • Incorporated association number for a not-for-profit/charity organisation
  • An active ABN/ACN for a not-for-profit or charity organisation.
  • A signed letter on club letterhead that clearly defines the organisations intent to register the domain name, their purpose for doing so and their overall overview of what their organisation is. This must be signed and dated by a member of the organisation.

Australian Public Companies Limited by Guarantee and NOT Limited by Shares are also eligible for .org.au and .asn.au domain names.

Private companies are NOT eligible for this extension, as they are limited by share/stakeholders and not guarantors.
